Reaching Green

Structures that facilitate social interaction and leisure are rarely prioritized during times of crisis. This intervention seeks to respond to the fluctuating and transitory nature of the refugee crisis and provides dignified spaces to work, rest and socialise.

The intervention consists of two main parts. One is the introduction of simple planting allotment boxes that introduces greenery and engages the refugees in gardening as pastime. One can easily walk between the boxes of plants tending to it. The other is the introduction of a variety of pavilions, based on the same modular construction system, that sit atop the iconic Tempelhof airport and addresses the need for various spaces to socialise and work.
